Sacramento, CA – The California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) is hiring enforcement staff for Cal/OSHA and the Labor Commissioner’s Office (LCO) with a statewide campaign to attract individuals committed to enforcing labor laws and making workplaces safer.

The campaign features a revamped website, DIRcareers.com showing why these careers are great and how to start one.

Careers options include: Cal/OSHA inspector (safety engineer or industrial hygienist) or LCO investigator (deputy labor commissioner or industrial relations representative).

DIR’s enforcement of California’s labor laws and workplace safety is an essential part of ensuring the state’s workers are protected.

CalOSHA inspectors inspect workplaces for safety across California. Inspectors investigate construction sites, healthcare facilities, manufacturing, agricultural operations and more. The work is meaningful, interesting and exciting. Inspectors interview employees, analyze hazards, enforce safety conditions and much more.

LCO’s investigators ensure workers across the state are paid by resolving wage claims and investigating retaliation complaints. Investigators inspect workplaces in many different industries and educate employers, workers and their communities through outreach events.

DIR Director Katie Hagen said: “A strong and dedicated team is how we enforce the state’s labor and workplace safety laws. Through this campaign, we continue to build our team and recruit the best talent to help fulfill our department’s mission, embody its values, and improve working conditions in California.”

DIR’s Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (California Labor Commissioner’s Office) combats wage theft, retaliation and unfair competition by investigating allegations of illegal and unfair business practices, and its Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) helps protect workers from health and safety hazards on the job in almost every workplace in California.
