Despite being a newcomer to Congressional politics, Vang won the June primary with over 11,000 more votes than Matsui. Matsui has represented Sacramento County for over 20 years and is backed by the Sacramento Democratic Party and other DNC affiliates. Both candidates believe that rising healthcare costs are contributing to affordability issues in the US, but disagree on how to achieve it. Vang plans to raise the minimum wage, protect workers’ rights, and back paid family leave. Matsu has received endorsements from organizations like the Working Families Party and the Democratic Socialists of America chapter in Sacramento.
