Sacramento is planning to hire a new police chief in the next few months, following the retirement of former Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester. The city is using Ralph Andersen & Associates, a recruiting firm, to conduct a national search for a new leader for the Sacramento Police Department. The firm is seeking an "experienced, collaborative leader" who can advance public safety, support department employees and strengthen community trust. The public is being asked for feedback on what traits the public is looking for in a new chief. City Manager Maraskeshia Smith announced a survey and encouraged Sacramento residents to complete by Nov. 5.
