Reports: United Airlines Planning To Open New Crew Bases In Dallas/Fort Worth & Sacramento
United says the new bases will recuce hotel costs and the need for layovers. United Airlines is reportedly planning to open two new crew bases in Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Sacramento International Airport. The locations will bring the airline's total number of bases to 21. The new bases will be smaller than their large hubs, which operate hundreds of daily flights. DFW will be the first to open, followed by SFW. The bases will supplement United's network that includes 19 other hub and satellite bases. The decision to open DFW has raised some eyebrows as the airport is home to American Airlines, but United operates from six gates at DFW in Terminal E, each could support 10-12 daily flights, so there is room for United to grow. The move could save United some money by allowing flight attendants who live near their home airports to work from their home airport.
