Highway 37 to close this weekend. What are alternate routes to the Bay Area?
Highway 37 will close for 55 hours this weekend, starting 10 p.m. Friday, between Vallejo and Sears Point. Caltrans is closing a 10-mile stretch of Highway 37 in the North Bay from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m., Monday to prepare for impending El Niño storms. The closure will extend from just west of Vallejo near Wilson Avenue to Sears Point, at the Highway 121 split. Caltrans expects significant delays and increased travel times while the highway is closed, but there are some alternate routes. Travelers headed to the Napa Valley or Sonoma County coast can make an easy diversion by leaving Interstate 80 about 6 miles north of Highway 36. The most direct routes to San Francisco and the East and South bays do not involve Highway 37. Commuters can also use Capitol Corridor, which operates 11 westbound routes on weekend days from Sacramento Valley Station.
