Sierra ski resorts extend season after recent snowfall

"We would ski every day that we can," one resort manager said. Some Sierra Ski Resorts are extending the ski season due to recent snowfall and the expected snowfall. The decision was made due to the current 92% of the annual snowpack, according to Maddy Condon, a spokesperson for Palisades Tahoe. The extension of the season was easy due to new snowfall in March and the healthy snowpack. Other resorts set to close may also extend their season. Check the resort's website and ticket sales for information.

Some Sierra Ski Resorts are extending the ski season following recent snowfall and the snow on the way."It comes down to a lot of different variables, but definitely the amount of snowpack," said Maddy Condon, spokesperson for Palisades Tahoe. "Currently, we’re sitting at about 92% of our average annual snowfall. The way things are going and our grooming, operators can move snow around to kind of keep our base here and keep skiing going," Ricky Newberry, the general manager of Kirkwood, said the decision to extend the season was easy."We would ski every day that we can," Newberry said. "With all the new snow that we received in March and then looking at the healthy snowpack — just knowing we can run the lifts and pretty much all the trains through the end of April."Extending Ski Season:Palisades Tahoe – Memorial Day (Monday, May 27)Mammoth Mountain – Memorial Day Sugar Bowl – April 28Kirkwood – April 28Not Extending:Heavenly – April 21Sierra-At-Tahoe – April 21Northstar – April 14Boreal – April 14Tahoe Donner Cross Country– April 14Soda Springs Mountain Resort – April 14There is a possibility some of those resorts set to close could end up extending as well. The best way to find out is to check the resort's website and search for ticket sales.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.
