Dyslexia expert explains how five-minute daily drills can improve reading fluency
Bonnie Terry, M.Ed., BCET, founder of Scholar Within in Northern California, says short, consistent reading drills can help struggling readers make significant progress. Dyslexia expert, Bonnie Terry, founder of Scholar Within in Northern California, demonstrates how her five-minute daily drills can improve reading fluency. The program involves drills designed to address 17 different processing challenges. The drills use various spacing in the letters and lines to train the brain to process words smoothly and improve visual tracking. Terry's data shows that 1st-3rd graders with reading difficulties nearly doubled their fluency rates after one to two years of use, while rates more than doubled for 4th-6th graders. The cost of the program, which costs $100 per session, is more affordable than traditional tutoring.
