A plan to relocate the Sacramento Zoo to Elk Grove has just a few upcoming hurdles before the project is approved.The project is years in the making. The zoo considered multiple new areas for relocation before landing on Elk Grove.The zoo has cited the lack of space in its current home as one of the motivations to relocate.Over the next couple of months, the zoo could clear a couple of major milestones so construction on the project could begin.On April 4, Elk Grove will hold a Planning Commission meeting to discuss the venture. The commission will review the design and operation of the proposed zoo and consider a recommendation to the City Council. Then, on April 17, Elk Grove is set to hold an online community forum to present and discuss the Financing Plan and answer the public's questions.The meetings will culminate in a full city council meeting on May 8, where the city will consider approval of the zoo, including the Financing Plan. The zoo said that if approved in this meeting, the new zoo project would officially move forward to construction.
