Investigators on Thursday were looking for the driver of a silver car that struck a 13-year-old girl Wednesday night shortly after she was hit by a SUV while walking in a Rancho Cordova crosswalk, authorities said.

The girl suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday afternoon in a news release. The Sheriff’s Office is contracted to provide police services in Rancho Cordova.

About 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rancho Cordova police officers were called to the intersection of Zinfandel and International drives for a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. The officers arrived and found an injured 13-year-old girl on the ground in the middle of the intersection, sheriff’s officials said.

Medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived, provided medical aid at the scene and took her to the ambulance.

Investigators determined the girl was struck by an SUV while walking in the crosswalk. Sheriff’s officials said the SUV driver stayed at the scene.

After the SUV hit the girl, a silver sedan struck the girl who was still in the road, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The driver in the silver sedan reportedly left the area without speaking to officers.
