Newsom offers $50K reward in unsolved killings of Elk Grove Sikh grandfathers
Fifteen years after two Sikh grandfathers were gunned down during an afternoon walk in Elk Grove, police hope a $50,000 reward will help solve their murders. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the unsolved 2011 murders of two Sikh grandfathers in Elk Grove. Gurmej Singh Atwal and Surinder Singh were shot on March 4, 2011, during a walk along East Stockton Boulevard. The killings, investigated as a possible hate crime, were believed to have been targeted because the gunman thought they were Muslim. No arrests have been made. The reward is hoped to generate new leads in the killings. In addition, Newsom announced a total of $300,000 in rewards for information in six unsolved murder cases across California.
