Sacramento Superior Court Workers Vote to Strike on or After Oct. 30

Sacramento court workers are set to strike October 30 after pay talks collapsed. Roughly 450 Sacramento Superior Court employees are set to walk off the job on or after October 30 due to months of stalled contract talks over pay. The workers, represented by United Public Employees (UPE), have been without a contract since September and the union claims that the court has refused to offer raises that keep pace with the rising cost of living. The union is seeking a 4% pay increase and claims that while the court refuses to offer rank-and-file raises, it has found money to raise pay for managers. The court's budget is $61 million less than what the Judicial Council's operating formula says the court needs. If the strike proceeds, the court plans to use an emergency operations plan for non-union employees, while remaining open while providing essential public services. This is not the first time a strike dispute involving UPE and Sacramento-area public employers has occurred.
