The western half of California, from the Oregon border down to the Central Coast, has a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, with the highest chance during Thursday evening. The Sierra Nevada east of Sacramento could see up to 10 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, particularly in areas south of Highway 50. There is also a Winter Weather Advisory for the west slope of the Sierra from 11 p.m. Wednesday to the same time on Friday. The skies could start clearing by Saturday, with more sun and temperatures rising again.

The National Weather Service forecasts rain showers and even low-elevation snow in some parts of the foothills later this week.
Starting on Thursday morning and continuing into Friday, there could be sporadic showers across Sacramento and other parts of Northern California.
The western half of California, from the Oregon border down to the Central Coast, has a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, with the highest chance during Thursday evening, the NWS said.
Overnight low temperatures in the Sacramento Valley could dip into the high 30s.
In the Sierra Nevada east of Sacramento, the NWS forecasts a weather system that could “bring back a taste of winter” with lows in the 40s.
Along with cold weather, there is a chance of low-elevation snow in communities like Placerville.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory for the west slope of the Sierra from 11 p.m. Wednesday to the same time on Friday.
The Sierra could see up to 10 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, with the strongest impacts in areas south of Highway 50, according to meteorologist Adam Epstein.
By Saturday, the skies could start clearing, with more sun and temperatures starting to rise again.
